How to Use BX Embroidery Files for Monograms
Share
What Is a BX Embroidery File?
A BX file is a special embroidery font format designed to work directly with Embrilliance software. Unlike traditional embroidery files (PES, DST, JEF) that contain a single design, a BX file contains an entire alphabet — so you can type any text directly in the software and it generates the stitches automatically.
BX files have become the go-to format for embroidery fonts because they're incredibly easy to use and produce professional results every time.
What You Need to Use BX Files
- Embrilliance software — available for Mac and Windows (free Essentials version works for BX fonts)
- A BX monogram font — such as our Monogram Embroidery Fonts
- An embroidery machine — any brand that reads PES, DST, or your machine's native format
Step-by-Step: How to Use a BX File
Step 1: Download Your BX Font
Purchase and download your monogram font from Embroidery Sky. Your download will include the BX file along with other formats (PES, DST, etc.).
Step 2: Install the BX Font in Embrilliance
- Open Embrilliance software
- Go to File → Install BX Font
- Navigate to your downloaded BX file and select it
- The font will install automatically and appear in your font library
Step 3: Type Your Monogram
- In Embrilliance, select the Text tool
- Choose your installed BX font from the font list
- Type your initials (e.g., "J" for a single initial, or "JMS" for a 3-letter monogram)
- Adjust size, spacing, and positioning as needed
Step 4: Export to Your Machine Format
- Go to File → Save As
- Choose your machine's format (PES for Brother, JEF for Janome, etc.)
- Transfer to your machine via USB
Step 5: Embroider!
Load the file on your machine, hoop your fabric with stabilizer, and stitch your monogram.
BX vs PES vs DST: Which Format Should You Use?
| Format | Best For | How to Use |
|---|---|---|
| BX | Typing custom text in Embrilliance | Install in Embrilliance software |
| PES | Brother machines | Transfer directly to machine |
| DST | Most commercial machines | Transfer directly to machine |
